Research: The major research focus is on investigation of signal transduction abnormalities in hematopoietic malignancies at the individual cellular level with an emphasis on acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome including both constitutive signal protein abnormalities and abnormal responses to myeloid growth factors and cytokines. These studies are centered on utilization, and development, of complex multi-parameter flow cytometry assays with the goal of developing cell based assays with diagnostic, prognostic or therapeutic monitoring application. These assays will provide potentially more sensitive and specific detection of minimal, or residual, disease post-therapy than current standard of practice. In addition, investigation of changing signal transduction responses to myeloid growth factors/cytokines during myeloid maturation, both granulocytic and monocytic, form a core aspect of these investigations and have revealed novel findings particular relevant to early monocytic maturation.
