Research Statement: I published 34 papers in multi-disciplinary journals (Science, PNAS) as well as mechanics, materials, physics, chemistry, and nano journals in 2009. These papers received a lot of media coverage (e.g., ABC, BBC, Boston Globe, Discover Magazine, Discovery, MIT Technology Review, MSNBC, New York Times, Reuters, and US News & World Report). My work on stretchable electronics was selected as the cover of NSF Budget Request to Congress for Fiscal Year 2011. My work on electronic-eye camera is on permanent display at the Museum of Science & Industry, Chicago. My work on reversible adhesion was broadcast by CBS radio news on September 20, 2010. I gave a total of 42 invited lectures and seminars at conferences and universities, including 2 plenary lectures at international conferences and 1 endowed lecture (at Peking University). I received the Honorary Professorship from Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications in 2009, Charles Russ Richards Memorial Award from ASME in 2010, and was selected as a ISI Highly Cited Researcher (Engineering), 2009.
