Research Statement: Dr. Massey studies the role of maternal empathy and related constructs in successful addictive behavior change during pregnancy. She is the Principal Investigator on a K23 Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Massey is also the Principal Investigator of a study funded by the Evergreen Invitational Women's Health Grants Initiative of the Northwestern Memorial Foundation aimed at understanding how oxytocin relates to prenatal and postpartum mood. A committed clinician and educator in the addiction field, Dr. Massey serves on the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation's Chicago Board of Directors and the Board of Governors of the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies.
