Research Interests
Professor Abusharif’s academic interests include the study of the intersections of religion and media, particularly digital media disruptions and religious authority. He also researches the origins, promulgation, and effects of key journalistic framing terminologies used in prominent Western print news sources for Middle East events and ongoing affairs. Currently, he is examining the usages of “Salafism” and “Islamism” in popular media and in academia. Prof. Abusharif also has researched narrative non-fiction (or literary journalism) in (or related to) the Arab world.
