Angela Ray studies and teaches in the areas of rhetorical criticism and history. She is especially interested in popular media and education in the nineteenth-century United States, focusing on how lecturing and debating affected perceptions of race, gender, national and international belonging, and political turmoil. Her new book project examines young men’s debating societies in the decade leading up to the Civil War.
