Screenwriting/playwriting, sound design, curating, teen culture, teen films, horror, comedy, psychology, health/illness in the contemporary world, empathy and film, sacrifice and film, film scores/film music, Star Trek, Wilhelm Reich, Spalding Gray, superhero movies, story structure including four-act structure and the Hero’s Journey, dialogue, and film endings.
My creative practice concentrates on screenwriting, but also includes experimental sound design and curating. More and more, I am playwriting and directing. Thematically, whether screenwriting for Hollywood, playwriting, designing sound, composing music, curating gallery exhibits, producing, or directing, I am often investigating illness, whether societal (teen angst, dystopia) or internal (schizophrenia, psychosis, dementia). I am particularly interested in illness that falls somewhere between the physical and the psychological and the role of memory/trauma in forming our personalities. At a more technical level, I am interested in the extent to which dialogue (especially simultaneous dialogue tracks) conveys narrative, can represent the internal world of mental illness, and the extent to which dialogue is perceived simply as music.
