Personal profile

Research Interests

I am a child neurologist with particular interest in neurology of the newborn. After medical research in physiology as an undergraduate, I pursued research in the psychophysics of vision as a medical student, and was awarded a PhD in neurobiology. I am currently pursuing clinical research, primarily regarding neurological issues in the newborn, including stroke, hypoxic ischemic injury, and use of therapeutic hypothermia.

My focus is on neurology of the newborn, and I am currently pursuing projects regarding treatment of hypoxic ischemic injury and stroke in the newborn, including use of therapeutic hypothermia. I spend time teaching pediatric residents and neurology fellows in the nursery, on the hospital floor, in the outpatient clinics, and through lectures on this and other topics. I am presently involved in the launch of the Neonatal NeuroCritical Care Program at Northwestern.

With my particular interest in neurology of the newborn, I provide consultative service for infants in the Crown Special Care Nursery at Prentice Women's Hospital. I am involved in the treatment of hypoxic ischemic injury and stroke in the newborn, including therapeutic hypothermia, as well as care of infants with seizures, stroke, brain malformation, and other neurological problems.
