Research Interests
Clinical interests center around pediatric critical care medicine, ECMO, cardiac and respiratory dysfunction and innovative approaches to management, and care of medically complex patients. She directs the Pulmonary Habilitation Program at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, which focuses on patients requiring long term invasive mechanical ventilation.
De. Goodman obtained her undergraduate degree from Niagara University (BS Physics and BA Chemistry) and her Medical Degree from State University of New York at Buffalo. She completed her pediatrics residency at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, Ohio, and pediatric critical care medicine fellowship at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. She was a faculty member at the University of Minnesota before coming to Northwestern University Feinberg SOM. She has continued to pursue additional training. She obtained her Masters of Science in Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2001. Dr. Goodman spent the 2012-2013 academic year as the Morris Fishbein Fellow in Medical Editing at JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association. Dr. Goodman now serves as the Medical Director of Case Management and Care Coordination at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.
Dr. Goodman's research interests include population health, health services research, medical education, medical editing and journalology, and medically complex care/care coordination. She has most recently participated in several studies using large databases, such as the Pediatric Health Information System of the Child Health Corporation of America, and the Virtual PICU dataset. She is an active member of the research network Pediatric Acute Lung Injury and Sepsis Investigators (PALISI). A second interest is medical writing and publishing. Dr. Goodman has also been very involved in medical education, particularly graduate medical education. She has participated in administrative, educational, and scholarly work in this area and oversaw all fellowships at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago until September 2016.
