Research Interests

I am an Assistant Professor of Pediatric, Adolescent, Transitional and Adult Urology at Northwestern. I provide care at both Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in the multidisciplinary spina bifida clinic, as well as at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the adult spina bifida clinic at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab (formerly RIC). In addition, I am a principal founding member and surgeon of the multidisciplinary program for Transgender Care and Gender-Affirmation Surgery. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Biologic Anthropology from Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, I attended the University of Michigan Medical School. I completed residency in Urologic Surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. I then underwent further training with a 2-year fellowship in Pediatric Urology at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

My research focuses are on the processes of patient transition from pediatric to adult care, transgender patient health, and complex reconstructive surgery. I have also published extensively on stone disease in adults and children.

I am a pediatric, transitional and adult urologist who treats congenital conditions of the genitourinary system such as spina bifida, bladder exstrophy and posterior urethral valves, with a specific interest in complex reconstructive surgery.
