Research Interests
My primary research interest is in health outcomes following pediatric liver transplantation and acute liver failure. I lead a research group that studies all aspects of outcomes from survival to health related quality of life (HRQOL). Our research group has extensive experience examining HRQOL and cognitive outcomes in pediatric liver transplant survivors, long term complications related to immunosuppressive medications and the causes and treatment of acute liver failure. Our group has also actively involved in new trials of immunosuppression withdrawal in liver transplant recipients. I am also one of the leaders of the Pediatric Acute Liver Failure Network and lead several ancillary studies within this group.
I am the Medical Director of the Siragusa Transplant Center and provide leadership and support for the missions of the solid organ transplant programs at Lurie Children's.
I am the Associate Chair for Clinical Services for the Department of Pediatrics and Pediatric Executive Leader of the Ambulatory Leadership Committee at Ann and Robert H Lurie Children's Hospital. My clinical practice includes treatment of all forms of chronic liver disease in childhood and management of children following liver transplantation. My special areas of clinical focus include acute liver failure, complications of cirrhosis and withdrawal of immunosuppression following liver transplantation.
