Personal profile

Research Interests

I am a Research Assistant Professor in the Departments Medical Social Sciences and Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and am faculty in the Northwestern University Center on Outcomes Research and Education (NUCORE). I received my PhD in Community and Prevention Research and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I have extensive training in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including mixed methods and translational research approaches. My research seeks to understand health risk and protective factors from social ecological and intersectional perspectives. At the patient level, I conduct research on patient-reported outcomes (PRO) in chronic illnesses, focusing on the development and use of patient-reported health measures to increase knowledge of treatment- and disease-related outcomes. At the healthcare systems level, I implement continuous quality improvement initiatives and adopt theoretically-driven approaches to evaluate multilevel prevention interventions. At the community level, I employ participatory research approaches to build upon the needs and strengths of communities to develop, implement, and evaluation health interventions. My current research focuses on identifying and eliminating health disparities related to sexual orientation and gender identity, age, and race/ethnicity, particularly in the areas of sexual and reproductive health, with an emphasis on HIV prevention and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
