Research Interests
Blood banking, Transfusion medicine
Our transfusion service has a strong emphasis on the quality improvement of laboratory testing and clinical support. We have pioneered blood group genotyping as a routine part of antibody testing in the transfusion service, leading to novel findings in blood group variants and alloimmunization risk. We have implemented innovative systems for managing blood component recalls and preventing errors in transfusions and organ transplants. Our work has been published in a broad range of areas in transfusion medicine and immunohematology, and we have contributed recurrent chapters to several widely read textbooks in blood banking and anesthesiology. Through various professional and federal committees, we have contributed to national forums for blood banking policies, accreditation, and disaster planning.
