Research Interests

My primary clinical interests include fetal and pediatric echocardiography and my primary academic interest is in value(outcomes and cost) research in congenital heart disease. My primary academic pursuit is to develop a cardiovascular research mission in which I aim to develop a value-based health care delivery model to improve the efficiency and efficacy of care provided to children with congenital heart disease in order to transform the way we deliver care and optimize their outcomes and cost.

My research so far has established that there is significant variation in the outcome of patients with congenital heart disease.. Importantly, however, my experiences thus far have shown me that analyzing outcomes is only part of the equation in optimizing the care of children with congenital heart disease. The opportunity exists to transform how we objectively evaluate outcomes and cost in developing a value-based health care delivery model. Value assessments of cost/outcome have been limited in congenital heart disease, and the impact and potential health care savings of moving to a value-based health care delivery model has not been assessed in pediatric cardiovascular care. A robust and generalizable framework for understanding value-based health care delivery models is necessary to help us identify the factors driving efficient and effective care for this resource-intensive population.

My clinical focus is in pediatric transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, fetal echocardiography, and general outpatient pediatric cardiology. I consider it a privilege to take care of children with congenital heart disease and their families.
