Personal profile

Research Interests

I am general pediatrician/internist with deep interest and multifaceted activities in population-centered, timely health services and policy research within the context of community needs. I also have strong interests in interdisciplinary research that stretches over the lifecourse, and translational research that connects medical advances with community impact. My central areas of methods expertise are survey research and policy-focused analyses of health services data, and my areas of subject matter expertise include vaccines and health insurance.

My academic focus includes population health-focused research across the lifecourse, with particular emphasis on the family context and impact of policies on child and family health. I serve as Division Head of Academic General Pediatrics and Primary Care; Director of the Mary Ann & J. Milburn Smith Child Health Research, Outreach, and Advocacy Center; and Associate Chief Research Officer for Health Services and Policy Research in the Stanley Manne Children's Research Institute. I am also Co-Deputy Director of the Northwestern University Institute for Innovations in Developmental Sciences; Acting Director of the Fellowship Program in Health Services and Population Health Research for the Division of Academic General Pediatrics and Smith Child Health Research, Outreach, and Advocacy Center; and Associate Medical Director for Accountable Care of the Lurie Children's Health Partners Clinically Integrated Network.

I am a primary care pediatrician and internist with a special interest in providing care for children with special health care needs and supporting adolescents and young adults as they transition into self-care in their life course.
