Research Interests

Dr. Kallen’s doctorate is in Educational Psychology; he is a research psychometric scientist with expertise in classical and modern test theory and their health measurement applications. His research track has focused on the psychometric development, evaluation, and validation of numerous patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures of health-related attitudes, beliefs, and quality of life. Dr. Kallen’s work has been funded by, for example, NIH, NIMH, CDC, AHRQ, and VA HSR&D, and he has served as a Co-Investigator for the NIH PROMIS Technical Center, the National Children’s Study (NCS), and the PROsetta Stone legacy-measure-to-PROMIS/NeuroQOL-measure score linking and crosswalk development project. Dr. Kallen is currently a Co-Investigator for the DoD PASTOR (Pain Assessment Screening Tool and Outcome Registry) project. His present interests include score linking, establishing essential unidimensionality and the practical implications of scoring data with measurable multi-dimensionality, and testing for differential item and test functioning and their score impact. Beyond his doctorate, Dr. Kallen has a Master in Public Health degree in Epidemiology, with an emphasis in Biostatistics.
