Personal profile
Research Interests
I received my PhD in Clinical Psychology with a focus in health psychology from the University of Iowa in 2003. I then completed a clinical internship at University of Chicago Medicine and a post-doctoral fellowship at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare (now NorthShore University HealthSystem). In 2009, I joined Northwestern University.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist and Associate Professor in the Departments of Medical Social Sciences, Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, and Neurology in the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. I am a health outcomes researcher with a focus on patient-reported outcome (PRO) measurement development and application. My work centers on the implementation of PROs in clinical practice through developing technological solutions, conducting methodological research, and providing clinician education. Currently, my work includes improving the interpretation of PRO scores, development of implementation tools for utilization of PROs in clinical practice, and development and evaluation of PRO measures utilized in measures of healthcare quality. Much of my work is within orthopaedics and oncology. I served as a co-investigator on Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) grants from 2004 – 2019 as well as other federally funded measurement science grants including HealthMeasures (www.HealthMeasures.net), PROsetta Stone (www.prosettastone.org), Neuro-QoL, AO Patient Outcomes Center, Fostering Innovative Rheumatic Disease Team-based Research to Improve Daily Life (FIRST-Daily Life, www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/sites/firstdailylife/), and Electronic Health Record Access to Seamless Integration of PROMIS (EASI-PRO, sites.northwestern.edu/easipro/) among others. Within Northwestern, I am a member of the Northwestern Medicine Patient-Reported Outcomes Steering Committee (NM-PRO) that oversees the implementation and utilization of PRO measures within NM clinics.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise in psychosocial oncology. I provide psychotherapy for individuals receiving care at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.
