Research Interests

I graduated from La Universidad LaSalle, School of Medicine in Mexico City, Mexico. In 2000, I completed a residency in Pediatrics at Sinai Children’s Hospital in Chicago. I became Board Certified in General Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics in 2001 and in Child Abuse Pediatrics in 2009. In 2000, I joined the Child Protective Services Team at Sinai Children’s Hospital. I served as its Medical Director from 2002 to 2005. In 2004, I joined the Division of Child Protective Services at the John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County. I was one of four Child Abuse Pediatricians working at Stroger Hospital of Cook County and the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center. I was the Program Director for the Pediatrics Residency Program from 2007 to 2010. In 2010, I had the opportunity to work as a Consultant Pediatrician for the Child Protection Team at Starship Children’s Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. In October 2013, I started working with the Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. I have been an appointed member of the Cook County Child Death Review Committee since 2002. I have been a member of the Multidisciplinary Pediatric Education and Evaluation Consortium (MPEEC) since 2004, where I participate in child abuse trainings for the Department of Children and Family Services.
