Research Interests

I see patients at both Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. I am involved in research help better understand the underlying causes of the two most prominent chronic urological pain disorders–interstitial cystitis/ bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) and chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS). I am also interested in practice patterns in urology and the development of centers of excellence focused on particular diagnoses. I co-authored several papers assessing practice patterns among urologists to help provide insight into this issue and to update knowledge on practitioners’ behaviors. I hope that in the long term these papers will serve as indicators that patients have improved outcomes when treated at high volume centers and lead to better overall practice patterns within our specialty.
