Research Interests

Environmental aspects of water, energy, and sustainability with a focus on ecosystem services provided by urban nature preserves and green infrastructure (GI) including water storage, flood mitigation, urban microclimate regulation, and air pollution mitigation.

Human and animal cell culture applications in biotechnology, medicine, and tissue engineering:

  • Ex vivo expansion and controlled differentiation of hematopoietic (blood) stem and progenitor cells for transplantation therapies, with a focus on megakaryocytic cells and platelets.
  • Development and characterization of bioreactor systems for the recellularization of organ scaffolds for eventual use in liver and kidney transplantation.
