Project Details
Description
My advisor, Dr. Prindle, discovered that bacteria coordinate multicellular behaviors using ion channel-mediated electrochemical signals. In my postdoctoral work, I will expand the electrophysiology paradigm to include endogenous neurotransmitters in biofilms. I will bring my background in bacterial genetics to provide synergy with the Prindle laboratory's expertise in the physical and chemical properties of biofilms. We will discover how bacteria produce, sense, transport, and utilize neurotransmitters.
