A Just Start: Empowering obstetrics and gynecology residents to screen and address their patients' medical-legal needs in pregnancy.

We propose “A Just Start,” a medical-legal partnership program to formally evaluate the current medical-legal needs of the Stroger obstetric population and to train residents and other providers to assess and ameliorate these needs with legal support and community resources. Medical-legal partnerships embed legal resources into the clinical setting and bolster the therapeutic relationship by empowering providers to reduce legal barriers to optimal health.
