The Northwestern University Vascular Surgery fellowship is an Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited two-year vascular surgical training program. In addition to the traditional 5+2 program we also have an ACGME approved 0+5 integrated vascular residency and we also fund 4 vascular surgery research fellows. Comprehensive vascular surgery training is achieved during rotations at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH) and the Jesse Brown Veterans Administration Medical Center (JBVAMC). These two facilities each have state-of- the-art operating room angiosuites (Phillips Allura FD20), vascular surgery-run blood flow laboratories and a strong collegial interaction with interventional radiology, interventional cardiology and cardiac surgery. These elements result in a robust training experience in both traditional open vascular surgery and advanced endoluminal interventions. Educational conferences for the fellows and the vascular service include a weekly topic-based vascular conference, a weekly case planning conference, weekly mortality and morbidity conference, monthly journal club and our annual Vascular Symposium. We are dedicated to developing academic surgeons and it is expected that all fellows be actively involved in clinical research projects with a faculty mentor yielding at least 1-2 peer-reviewed manuscripts a year. The primary objective of the program is to train future leaders in vascular surgery as exemplified by the list of our previous graduates. IN addition to rotations on the vascular surgery service, fellows also complete rotations in Interventional Radiology and the Blood Flow laboratory and have 2 research rotations during the two-year program.
