Description
The Northwestern University School of Medicine has a very well-respected Department of Gastroenterology and is well known for its cutting-edge research, education and training as well as patient care in esophageal disease, functional bowel disorders, liver diseases, interventional procedures and Inflammatory Bowel Disease(IBD). It became a fully rounded and world class division when Dr. Stephen Hanauer, a renowned clinician, teacher and researcher in all things Inflammatory Bowel Disease-related was recruited to be the Medical Director of the Digestive Diseases Center in 2014. There are 4 other faculty involved in the care of IBD patients, teaching and research making our center one of the largest in our region. We have a well-established and dedicated fourth-year IBD fellowship program.
The goal of this application for this 4th year fellowship is to provide support for a qualified candidate to be trained clinically and mentored in research methods under expert teachers so they will go on to be a major thought leader and work as an academic gastroenterologist with expertise in the management of simple and complex IBD patients and carry out research that will advance the knowledge about IBD.
