Swan Htun will work in a project being supported by the core FWP of the Synchrotron Studies of Materials (SSM) group in the Materials Science Division at Argonne. The project aims to develop new models for analyzing coherent x-ray diffraction data pertinent to enabling new discoveries in materials science. In particular, analysis methods are lacking today that accurately deal with image inversion of ptychography data sets in the Bragg geometry, or that accurately estimate dynamics of materials from low-count-rate coherent scattering experiments, both of which represent needs of the SSM group. These areas will be the focus of Swan Htun’s work in the group. Her work in this area will have a significant impact in the scope of materials-centered coherent x-ray diffraction experiments that the SSM group will be able to perform. Swan Htun is a first year Ph.D. student who has been working closely with Stephan Hruszkewycz (leader of the SSM group) and with collaborators of the SSM group. This contract will support her research salary for her coming year of thesis study. Deliverables: Swan Htun will deliver a model for fitting dynamics from low-count-rate diffraction patterns as well as initial image reconstructions of Bragg ptychography data sets. Safety: Work will be performed within the scope of work and abide by all safety rules and practices required for the project.
