Description
This U19 NIH grant application focuses on making clinically meaningful advances in the treatment of glioblastoma (GBM) patients, the most malignant form of a primary brain tumor that remains virtually incurable. Over 13.000 people succumb to this disease in the United States every year. Recent examples of well-known patients are Senator Robert Kennedy, Senator John McCain and Beau Biden, the older son of the president-elect Joe Biden. Immunotherapy has been a major advance over the last decade in the treatment of the previously most aggressive solid tumors. However, for GBM an immunological strategy needs to overcome a series of additional obstacles.
