Arryman Program

May 29, 2014 The Arryman Program Scope of Work Arryman Fellows The Arryman Fellows program is a 1 year, non-degree program in residence at Northwestern University to conduct a full year of work on a research project that will develop their research skills in preparation for application to NU doctoral programs of their choice. Fellows will be appointed as Visiting Predoctoral Fellows through the Office for Research and be affiliated with the Buffett Center for International and Comparative Studies (The Buffett Center) and the Equality Development and Globalization Studies program (EDGS). The Fellows research training program will be designed by the EDGS director and overseen and administered by the Buffett Center. It will include a range of educational experiences and faculty mentorship involving a limited set of graduate seminars, an emphasis on research and analytical skills, and foundational work in language. Fellows are expected to: • Fully participate in the full training program designed for the Arryman Fellows, which includes, but is not limited to: o Training and mentorship activities designed by the EDGS director; o Apply for admission to Northwestern's Graduate School as non-degree seeking students; o Take one course for credit in their chosen field in the fall, winter, and spring quarters (as agreed to by the EDGS director and the respective department); o Take an academic year-long English as Second Language {ESL) program if needed • Fellows are expected to apply for admission to the doctoral program of their choosing according to the application deadline set by the department to which they are applying. ISRSF provides Northwestern with resources for each Fellow to provide stipend for the Fellow as well as academic and research materials as specified in the agreement between ISRSF and Northwestern University. Arryman Scholars Arryman Fellows who have been accepted into a graduate program at Northwestern University, become Arryman Scholars. The Arryman Scholars program is fully devoted to the doctoral studies and thesis of the Scholar and they are funded for up to six years of study in the social sciences—including funds for tuition, stipend, research, etc. The Scholars will return to Indonesia after receiving their PhD and become faculty at a new School for Public Policy and Social Sciences, especially built for these Scholars.
