Project Details

Description

This proposal will advance our understanding of the brain’s network architecture and how it supports goal-directed behaviors. The project will specify the role of hubs in directing information flow and/or encoding task-relevant variables, and with what specificity. In doing so, this project will disambiguate among models of hub functions (i.e., as a monolithic “rich club” or in differentiated sub- types) and provide concrete neural substrates for cognitive models of task control “resources” in the brain. Finally, the precision fMRI approach used here addresses several methodological issues (regarding cross-subject heterogeneity, measurement reliability, and artifact reduction) that plague more traditional study designs. Characterizing hubs with this novel approach may provide fundamental insights into the cortical mechanisms of task control.
