Project Details

Description

Project 1: Northwestern, under the direction of PI Brown, will be responsible for the overall scientific activities of this Research Project 1. Northwestern will maintain and support the ongoing collaboration between its research team, the research team at the University of South Florida, and the three county coalitions addressing opioid and stimulant deaths and nonfatal overdoses in Pinellas County, FL, Vermilion County, IL, and Santa Clara County, CA. Northwestern will provide administrative support for its meetings with community, service, and governmental partners. Northwestern will also lead the development and refinement of an Agent-Based Model and will conduct simulation experiments to identify optimal approaches to reducing opioid and stimulant related deaths in all three counties. Northwestern will document all aspects of the decision support system, write scientific papers and present at scientific meetings. Methods Core: At Northwestern, Brown will serve as the Multiple Director of the C-DIAS Research Methods Core with Dr. Lisa Saldana. The Northwestern site will report to the C-DIAS director Dr. Mark McGovern and with Saldana be responsible for scientific development and dissemination of the Core. Northwestern will lead the section of the Methods Core on Designs and Modeling, and will ensure the bidirectional communication between the three ongoing Research Projects and the Methods Core. Northwestern will also lead the transition of the dissemination programs currently used in the Prevention Science and Methodology Group (PSMG) into C-DIAS. Additional responsibilities include mentoring early career faculty and providing support in C-DIAS’ role as a national leader in implementing addiction services and supporting designing and modeling in other sites.
