CIF21 DIBBs: PD: Ontology-enabled Polymer Nanocomposite Open Community Data Resource

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Our vision is an open access, user friendly database infrastructure for polymer nanocomposites that will be embraced by and support the nanocomposites community. Such an infrastructure is absolutely necessary to develop the scientific and engineering understanding necessary to catapult nanocomposite use in high end functional applications. Domain experts can no longer store and access the vast array of information necessary scattered throughout the public literature, and private spread sheets and files. In addition, there is no standard set of terminology, or data structure. Even a simple deterministic query on single or multiple material parameters can be challenging. Thus, without a robust data resource the complexity and lack of depth to the published data will continue to stymie rapid development.
