Description
We propose a data-driven approach to uncover the genomic rules governing denitrification in bacterial communities. Using modeling, machine learning, and experiments on a library of natural isolates, we first construct a map from genotype to phenotype, and then to community-level denitrification. The result is a quantitative map from genome content to metabolite dynamics in denitrifying communities that provides mechanistic insights into the structure and dynamics of such communities in the wild.
