Collaborative Research: SWIFT: LARGE: Dynamics and Security Aware Predictive Spectrum Sharing with Active and Passive Users

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Meeting the continually rising demand for wireless services requires an ever-growing amount of electromagnetic spectrum. As the need for spectrum for 5G/6G and other commercial wireless services grows, a critical consideration is ensuring that other critical uses of spectrum are protected from harmful radio frequency interference (RFI). In particular, many of these uses involve passive usage of spectrum such as various forms of passive remote sensing for environmental monitoring or radio astronomy. Most of these applications are extremely sensitive to RFI, which may come from transmitters in the same spectrum band or out-of-band emissions from transmitters in neighboring bands. A key consideration moving forward is how to protect these applications while also increasing the inventory of spectrum for communications.
