Description
Overview:
In December of 2016, the National Science Foundation (NSF) released a new solicitation titled "NSF 17- 525, Computer Science for All: Researcher Practitioner Partnerships (CS for All: RPP)". To help prepare researcher-practioner teams for the submission and implementation of these projects, PI Nichole Pinkard worked with the Research + Practice Collaboratory to provide a technical assistance workshop in January 2017. Due to the success of this workshop in building capacity for the partnerships, proposals, and implementation plans, PI Pinkard and the Research + Practice Collaboratory, with guidance from the University of California, Los Angeles, propose to host two workshops early 2018 for the CSforALL: RPP solicitation due February 28, 2018. These workshops will bring together 80 participants each and be held in Chicago and Los Angeles. The workshops will help teams develop a deeper understanding about research practice partnerships to strengthen the development of their submissions and ultimately, the execution of their computer science education projects and collaboration.
PI Pinkard directs the Office of Community Partnerships (OCEP) in the School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University. OCEP will handle all the event logistics including but not limited to website design and hosting, registration, arranging meeting room space, catering, and A/V support, and conducting reimbursement for travel costs for participants.
The Research + Practice Collaboratory (www.researchandpractice.org) has been solicited to plan and execute the workshop content for the two workshops.
Intellectual Merit:
The CSforALL: RPP Workshops will share knowledge about how to prepare a competitive proposal for the NSF 17-525 solicitation due February 28, 2018. Participants will also gain knowledge on how to build and implement sustainable partnerships focused on improved K-12 computer science education and have access to ongoing information about and oppo
