Project Details
Description
The proposed research will close a gap in the visualization literature by producing a set of new visualizations that appropriately communicate and integrate the uncertainty information in continually-updating probabilistic models. Unlike previous in-lab studies, this research will establish long-lasting ecological validity with users from different backgrounds through the longitudinal study conducted in the real world. It will uncover principles for how to design continually-updating uncertainty visualizations that engender trust and improve decision quality. It will enrich knowledge of users’ decision processes and advance understanding of how people perceive probability and uncertainty over time.
