Description

Violent death due to firearm injury and drug overdose are two of the most pressing preventable public health problems facing the United States today. They contribute to more than 134,000 deaths annually and huge financial and social costs. As the COVID pandemic took hold in the United States, violent and drug overdose deaths have increased significantly. Public health experts have identified the crises of violent and overdose deaths as among the most pressing health challenges facing the US today. Illinois and Chicago in particular has experienced an exponential increase in homicide and drug overdose deaths during 2020.
