Description
Scope of Work for Pathology: This study is multi-institutional and therefore subjects’ biopsies will initially be reviewed by multiple different pathologists. We will ensure the integrity of the study and minimize variability in biopsy interpretation by having central pathology review by 4 pathologists (Margaret Collins, M.D.-pediatric CCHMC, Guang-Yu Wang, M.D., Ph.D -adult-NW, Rachel Sheridan, M.D.-pediatric CCHMC, and Nicoleta Arva, M.D., Ph.D-pediatric Lurie) who are experts in EoE, EG and EC biopsy interpretation and who have collaborated extensively with CEGIRs PIs. We will employ slide scanning and imaging software to achieve central pathology review because this method will 1) facilitate transmission of pathology slides from multiple different sites to a central repository; 2) minimize costs involved in slide transmission; 3) preserve the original glass slides for the participating sites; 4) maximize pathologist efficiency by eliminating the need for travel for joint review and by providing greater flexibility to review slides; 6) provide a permanent slide archive that can be used to obtain photographs and to compose qualitative pathology reviews for publications
