Cytidine Deaminases, Somatic Mutations and Breast Cancer Etiology.

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

This project aims at determining if the dysregulated expression of APOBEC3C in the mammary gland is mutagenic and, if so, if sufficient to cause malignant transformation. Additionally, we seek to ascertain if inflammatory mediators are responsible for the increased expression of APOBEC3C as observed in histologically normal breast tissue adjacent to a tumor. If APOBEC3C mutations are oncogenic and if APOBEC3C expression is induced by inflammatory mediators, this would suggest the possibility of a role for anti-inflammatories in the breast cancer therapeutic armamentarium.
