Design and development of high-strength, high-toughness titanium alloys

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The project will lead to an optimal design of metastable β Ti-alloys using the Ti555 alloy as the starting reference material. It is expected that the new design in this project will deliver a modified Ti555 alloy, showing a higher strength and toughness. The work will also quantify the influence of impurities on the phase behavior and mechanical properties. Complex phase transformations among α, β, and ω will be studied systematically in this project, and thus establish the fundamentals in thermodynamics and kinetics for metastable β Ti-alloy design.
