Develop Few-atom Clusters for Solar Fuels Catalysis
The goal of this effort is to identify a reproducible route to depositing homogeneous surface-bound clusters that may more efficiently catalyze the conversion of H2O and CO2 to high energy fuels. This work includes:
1. Synthesis of 2-D and 3-D scaffolds that may be post-synthetically modified by atomic layer deposition (ALD)
2. ALD of metal oxides, sulfide, or elements onto the support
3. In situ and ex situ characterization of the deposition process and resulting clusters. This includes, but is not limited to, quartz crystal microbalance analysis, SEM, TEM, XRD, and GISAX.
4. Electrochemical catalytic performance testing of the resulting cluster-bound electrodes.
Deliverables: Catalytic cluster synthesis, characterization, and performance testing.
