Project Details
Description
Aim 1: To develop the Admission for Geriatric patients in the Emergency Department (AGED) risk score using retrospective data analysis for 10,000 ED patient visits over 6 months.
Aim 1a: Develop a multivariable model to create a parsimonious risk score, AGED, to predict risk of hospitalization for older patients presenting to the ED that incorporates data available in the electronic medical record at presentation.
Aim 1b: Evaluate the AGED risk score against additional key outcomes (72-hour ED return visit, 30-day ED readmission, and ED and hospital length of stay) using accuracy metrics (sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value).
Aim 2: Validate the AGED scoring algorithm using a sample of 10,000 ED patient visits at Northwestern over the next 6 months.
