Description

While IT clouds originally arose as centralized providers of complete services, they are also being
extensively used to enable or complement applications delivered by devices that are mobile and/or
remote. Typical examples include smart phone applications (apps) that take advantage of clouds for
services that cannot fully run on remote devices due to their limitations in power and/or resources. This
introduces the necessity of addressing personalized quality‐of‐service (QoS) requirements as mobile
devices become pervasive points of cloud access by individual users. The resulting systems are
distributed and complex, and require end‐to‐end management techniques that enable unprecedented
mobility, customizability, interoperability and generality.
