Efficacy of Potassium Nitrate In Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction

For the subcontract at Northwestern University (NU), the subcontract PI will be Sanjiv Shah, MD. As the subcontract PI, Dr. Shah will coordinate, supervise, and assure quality control for the enrollment of study patients as outlined in the research proposal. Dr. Shah will supervise screening for, consenting, and enrolling study patients; ensuring that the study subjects meet inclusion/exclusion criteria; and supervising all study-related procedures. Enrollment of study subjects The study coordinator at Northwestern, Cynthia Sanchez, BA, will perform screening, consenting, and enrollment duties. In addition, Cynthia will coordinate all study visits and study-related procedures. Phlebotomy Phlebotomy will be performed in the Northwestern Memorial Hospital laboratory, and laboratory tests will be performed at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Dispensing of study drug The Investigational Drug Service (IDS; also known as Research Pharmacy) at Northwestern Memorial Hospital will dispense all study medications for the study patients. Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) CPET studies will be conducted in the Northwestern Memorial Hospital CPET laboratory. Lauren Beussink-Nelson, MHS, RDCS, technical director of the Northwestern University Echocardiography Core Laboratory, will perform comprehensive echocardiography at baseline and during exercise at the time of the CPET. Dr. Shah will supervise this work. Cardiac MRI: Cardiac MRI testing will be performed in the Center for Translational Imaging (M. Markl, PhD, Director of Cardiovascular Imaging). Interpreting the results, presenting data at scientific conferences, and writing manuscripts: Dr. Shah will work with the rest of the study team at the University of Pennsylvania to troubleshoot any problems that arise during the enrollment period and also will assist with the interpretation of results and will participate in preparation of abstracts and manuscripts.
