Emergency Department Management of Pain in Older Adults

Dr. Emanuel will be a contributor for the "Emergency Department Pain Management in Older Adults" research project. She will provide extensive expertise on Performance Improvement. Dr. Emanuel will contribute to the overall effort as well as participate directly in an expert panel to examine work on the competencies, focus group data, and existing tools and literature in order to develop the TIPS PI intervention. The intervention is anticipated to consist of a focused education series, clear and specific performance standards with which to measure progress, a succession of algorithms from drug choice/dose and medication management, and the most effective approaches for management of acute versus chronic pain.
