Entrepreneurship Effects of the Sharing Economy: Peer-to-Peer Networks, Mobile Communications, and the Internet of Things

Project: Research project

Description

The present proposal will address how economic developments in the Sharing Economy and related developments in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) are profoundly affecting opportunities and prospects for entrepreneurship. The project will consider particularly how Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Networks, Mobile Communications, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are impacting entrepreneurship. Innovation in ICT is creating economic upheavals that are in the process of generating new business models and opening markets to entry of entrepreneurs. The focus of the research is the construction of economic models of entrepreneurs in the Sharing Economy and the formulation of some testable implications. The research will also conduct some very basic applied analysis of how institutions and public policy affect entrepreneurship in the Sharing Economy. The proposed research will generate working papers and published articles conducting economic analyses of the effects of ICT changes on entrepreneurship, investment, and innovation. In addition, the research on entrepreneurship will be reflected in my work organizing conferences.
