Examining Non-Visit-Based Antibiotic Use to Improve Safety and Limit Resistance

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Overuse of antibiotics leads to antibiotic-resistance and adverse drug events and prior research has shown that physicians prescribe and patients use antibiotics too often. In this project, we will measure and describe antibiotic use by patients and antibiotic prescribing by physicians that occurs outside of clinic visits. This work will inform future interventions to improve antibiotic prescribing and improve patient safety and preserve the effectiveness of antibiotics in the United States.
