Description
The Friends of Taiwan Foundation and the Taiwan Ministry of Education have committed to funding the undergraduate short-term trips to Taiwan. The inaugural trips will take place in June 2022. Two different groups of Northwestern students will travel to Taiwan:
1) a group of seven Chinese language students will travel to study language and culture in Taiwan for 10 days. Following virtual interactions in the spring quarter, they will meet with their student counterparts at National Taiwan university for language and cultural exchange.
2) a group of ten Northwestern students will travel to Taiwan as part of the Global Engineering Treks (GET). This trip is focused on innovation and hi-tech. Students will primarily visit companies, labs, and research facilities (including National Taiwan University), in addition to cultural and historical sites.
The funding from the Ministry of Education ($50,000) and the Friends of Taiwan Foundation ($20,000) will cover the travel expenses associated with these trips, including the following for students and accompanying faculty and staff members: airfare, hotel, meals, ground transportation, and cultural site admissions.
