Project Details

Description

This proposal, involving collaborative work by three investigators at two universities: the University of Tennessee (P. K. Liaw) and Northwestern University (D.C. Dunand and G. Ghosh), aims at the development and validation of computational methods to enable design of creep-resistant multi-phase alloys for high-temperature structural applications in fossil-energy (FE) power systems. Our approach integrates methods spanning first principles calculations, computational thermodynamic modeling, and mesoscale dislocation simulations, and includes an extensive effort aimed at the experimental validation of these methods through use of state-of-the-art tools for materials characterization.
