Harnessing reactivity-property relationships for polymer discovery

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The overarching goal of my laboratory is to discover polymeric materials that contribute to human health and sustainability by interrogating and exploiting the relationship between molecular reactivity and macroscopic properties. We approach “reactivity-property” relationships bidirectionally: in reactivity-directed materials discovery, we use synthesis and physical organic chemistry to tune reactions occurring within polymer networks, manipulating their time-dependent properties. In properties-directed reaction discovery, we take a unique structure-agnostic approach to methodology, designing mechanisms that target desirable properties. In particular, we use light to provide spatiotemporal control and selectivity.
