Description

The objective of this 18 month study is to determine underlying factors and reasons that contribute to home dialysis use among Veterans with ESKD and to develop and assess the acceptability of a prototype toolkit to promote use of home dialysis. We will identify and recruit VA dialysis staff (nephrologists, nurses, social workers), Veterans with severe CKD and ESKD, informal caregivers, and other key stakeholders into our study at multiple VA dialysis facilities over an 18 month period. Study participation will last 1 day. All participants in the study will partake in interviews and surveys by telephone.
All investigators and research staff will participate in routine project meetings, including formally scheduled monthly in person/telephone meetings led by Dr. Fischer. Research staff will participate in weekly in-person meetings with Dr. Fischer. Dr. Fischer will hold weekly in-person and teleconference study meetings with the RA, project manager, programmer/analysts, and leaders of the quantitative, qualitative, and implementation cores (Drs. Stroupe, Gordon, and Wakefield, respectively). Dr. Fischer will hold quarterly teleconference meetings with all investigators and the strategic partners. Dr. Fischer will also correspond with team members via e-mail and telephone on an as needed basis.
