Hispanic Serving Institutions- Pathways to the Professoriate

HSI Pathways to the Professoriate will prepare students from Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) for Ph.D. programs over a five-year period. During the remaining 1.5 years of this five-year program, the Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions (moving to Rutgers beginning 7/1/19), will partner with three Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) : Florida International University; the University of Texas El Paso; and California State University, Northridge. And five majority research institutions; New York University; University of California, Berkeley; University of Pennsylvania; Northwestern University; and University of California, Davis. Selected HSI undergraduate students will take part in intensive summer research programs and cross-institutional conferences, while also receiving mentoring, and support for applying to and enrolling in graduate school. The program's goal is to increase the number of Latino professors working in the humanities at U.S. colleges and universities. YEAR 1 • Virtual Recruitment event with NU-Branded promotional materials for all institutions. • HSI Pathways to Northwestern-hosting 15 students at NU October 20-22 to visit the campus and speak with faculty, staff and graduate students. YEAR 2 • Virtual Recruitment event with NU-Branded promotional materails for all institutions. • Recruitment Trips to attend all three institutions- Florida International University, University of Texas-El Paso, and California State University-Northridge • HSI Pathways to Northwestern-hosting 15 students at NU October 20-22 to visit the campus and speak with faculty, staff and graduate students.
