Image Analysis for Materials Characterization

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

In this work, we will use machine-learning- and computer-vision-based image analysis including object/feature detection, pattern recognition, in-painting, segmentation, and other processes to enhance the understanding and utility of images from materials characterization including electron microscopy and x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy. Images will be obtained from experiments, simulations, and scientific literature. Mappings between physical model and image features will be trained using machine learning. The resultant models and software suites will be adapted for real-time data interpretation. Weixin Jiang, researcher at Northwestern University, will work on this project under the supervision of Prof. Ollie Cossairt (Northwestern Univ.) and Dr. Maria Chan (Argonne National Lab).
